Have you ever walked through an old cemetery, admiring the peacefulness and history etched into every stone? Fall City Cemetery is one of those special places—tucked into our community, it’s more than just a resting place for those who’ve passed on. It’s a living reminder of our shared history, a place where families return to reflect, honor, and remember. But like any cherished landmark, it requires care and attention, and that’s where YOU can make a difference.
We’re calling on volunteers who want to play a meaningful role in preserving the beauty and dignity of Fall City Cemetery. Whether you’re an individual, part of a family, or representing a larger group, we have a range of activities that can suit anyone willing to lend a hand. Every small action adds up to ensure this special place remains as beautiful as it is now for future generations.
Here are just some of the ways you can help:
- **Marker Cleaning Events**
In collaboration with the Fall City Historical Society, we organize marker cleaning days where you can help restore the gravestones to their original beauty. It’s a hands-on way to literally brush the dust off history!
- **Bi-Annual Line-Trimming**
Twice a year, we tackle the tall grass around markers and buildings with weedeaters. This is a great opportunity to get outdoors, work with a group, and make a visible impact.
- **Branch Pruning**
If you’ve got a good pair of pruning shears, we’d love your help keeping the cemetery’s trees and shrubs in healthy, respectful condition.
- **Ivy and Blackberry Eradication**
For those who like a challenge, invasive species like ivy and blackberry bushes are persistent! Your effort in removing these helps preserve the cemetery’s original landscaping and protects the headstones from damage.
- **Building and Waterpipe Maintenance**
If you’re handy with tools, you can support the upkeep of small structures and water systems on the grounds. It’s a rewarding way to use your skills for the community.
- **Litter Pick-Up**
Even a quick walk through the grounds can help. Gathering up litter ensures the cemetery remains a tranquil, respectful space.
- **Miscellaneous Odd Jobs**
There’s always something that needs doing! From fixing a fence to setting up for events, there’s a way for everyone to contribute.
Volunteering here is more than just work—it’s a way to connect with others in the community, learn about local history, and give back in a tangible, meaningful way. You’ll be helping to protect a place that holds the stories of Fall City’s past while creating a future where people can continue to come for remembrance and reflection.
If you're interested in any of these opportunities, please reach out to Ron Johnson at (425-999-5491) to coordinate your volunteer efforts. Or, if you're intrigued by the marker cleaning events, you can also contact the Fall City Historical Society directly at historylives@fallcityhistorical.org.
Together, we can keep Fall City Cemetery beautiful—a place where history lives, and community thrives. Thank you for considering this important and rewarding work!
